Porcelain Veneers

Minor cosmetic imperfections like severe discoloration, misalignment, and misshapen teeth can make you feel self-conscious about your smile. Porcelain veneers can cover the front surfaces of the teeth to hide a wide range of cosmetic blemishes. At Signature Dental in Sheboygan, WI, Drs. Christopher Hill, Matthew Bistan, and Christopher Tamsen can improve your smile with veneers.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells that fit over the front of your tooth to conceal cosmetic imperfections and give your smile a straighter, whiter appearance. Veneers are virtually painless to place and they require no recovery time, making them a great cosmetic dentistry treatment.

How Can Veneers
Improve My Smile?

Mask Discoloration

If you have discolored teeth that will not respond to whitening, your dentist can use veneers to conceal the discoloration and provide a healthy appearance.

Address Minor Misalignment and Close Gaps

If you have minor misalignment issues or gaps, veneers can give your smile virtually instant symmetry without the need for orthodontic treatment. This is one reason why porcelain veneers are sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics.”

Improve Small, Misshapen, or Worn Teeth

If you have developed chips, cracks, or wear, or if you have naturally small or misshapen teeth, veneers can be designed to give your smile a more balanced and healthy appearance.

Am I a Candidate

for Porcelain Veneers?

Minor Cosmetic Issues

If you have significant alignment problems, you may be a better candidate for orthodontic treatment. Veneers cannot correct large chips, cracks, or tooth decay. If your tooth has structural damage, you may be a candidate for a crown.

Good Oral Health

Candidates for dental veneers must be in good oral health. Any underlying dental problems, such as gum disease or tooth decay, must be addressed before your porcelain veneer placement can be scheduled.

Issues with Anterior Teeth

This cosmetic dentistry treatment is intended to mask flaws affecting the most visible teeth. The porcelain shells are strong enough to support the daily functions performed by the anteriors, but they are not strong enough for the molars.

How Are Veneers Placed?

A cosmetic dentist places dental veneers during two visits to our Sheboygan dental office.

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia will be used to ensure that you are comfortable throughout this cosmetic treatment. We gladly offer sedation options for patients who are anxious or especially sensitive.

Tooth Preparation

During your first appointment, each tooth you wish to treat will be prepped. This process involves removing a small amount of enamel in order to make room for the porcelain shells.

Impressions

Once you have been prepped and the appropriate amount of enamel has been removed, an impression will be made. This impression guides lab technicians in fabricating veneers that achieve a precise fit and natural look.

Placement of Temporary Veneers

To finish this first appointment, temporary veneers will be placed. These will protect your teeth while your custom veneers are fabricated.

Placement of the Custom Veneers

After about two weeks, your custom veneers will arrive at our office. One of our dentists will ensure that the shells are a proper fit before bonding them in place.

Minor Adjustments

Minor adjustments can be made as needed at this point to further improve the look and fit of your veneers. Once you are satisfied with the results, you can leave our office.

A Closer Look at Dental Veneer Placement

About 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters of enamel is removed from the front of the tooth. This allows the veneer to fit properly over the tooth and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
